wow i am so thankful for this thread. i was just about to post pics and ask. i got a couple of those guys when i went fishing the other day and at first i thought they were chubs, but upon further inspection i thought they were fatheads, but i doubt that.

I'm going out on a limb and saying maybe Ironcolor Shiner, Notropis chalybaeus. If you confirm it, you might want to check their status in NY, because they might be listed.

You think Ironcolor? What trait? I'm kind of leaning toward Striped or common shiner.. Bad pics but they seem sort of right...

AHA! I FINALLY SOLVED THE MYSTERY!!!!! those minnows, which i had some of as well(used them as feeders to my bass) are known as blacknose daces! WOOHOO!!!!

Looks like a dace a.k.a. creek chub, if you showed me a better pic of the mouth i could tell
