Post where you put your traps and what baits and how long it sits. i am looking to help others find what types of bait and where you put them to get the most minnows.
Ex.
Near drop off 5ft, logs, ect...
bait: bread
time: overnight
thank you

how many you normally get? on a good day? on a bad day? thnaks

me and my friend are planning on livebait fishing soon. what bait should i use and how many minnows would we catch cuz we need alot for a day of fishing?

what I have done and keep in mind I am no expert was fish with lures while the trap was in the water every 30 minutes or so bought it up and each time had fish if they got scared away they came back because each haul had something.

# if they are there in area you will catch them use bread to initially lure them if not in area than ofcourse nothing to catch.

I found pasta (boiled before) worked well as it didnt break apart each time I bought it up but add a cheap hot dog or anything that gives off "smell" intruth anything works dog food, etc

I have caught a few minnows only because not many around here but have caught trillion large mosquito fish- easily over 100 baby bass and baby sunfish , 2 plecos- dozen wild swordtails and 1 strange eel like fish.

My traps are a pain you need to use cable ties or something to tie middle . I never used anything I caught for fishing let it go right away as used them only to try to catch crayfish , flagfish or something neat for one of my ponds but never caught anything neat and the plecos were types that got big so let them go to.

I caught them day/night made no difference at all and all by shore threw traps out like 15 feet . I havent used them in awhile because have only fished in area and no flagfish or anything but cichlids that get to big in these local waters .

depends if your fishing good
i really do not use live bait often, but what forever reason if i feel like trying to catch monster quality not quantity i use live minnows, i have 14 traps i think, i set them all in one cove i set them at all depths 4 on each shore in places and then 6 at various depths some as deep as 18 feet , tie them off to detergent and mile jugs etc
also have 2 seine nets
usually only use the minnow traps when im at my friends house in maine we catch a ton of minnows with about 35 traps and sell them when im around use square back canoes and a johnboat with trolling motors to use, bait with what ever is available, stale crackers will work well in shallow water but are useless in deep water, hotdogs, ham etc with strong smell will work, even dead fish sometimes works

I have only caught a few minnows could it be because I used to bring my traps every 30 minutes most an hour or as I suspect not many in area?

are you only letting them sit for an hour because your afraid someone will steal them? i set mine before dusk and pick up in the morning

when i used to run traps for minnows all I would use to bait was bread. It also helps to position the trap right and let them soak in the water for sometime. painting them flat black or green makes them harded for the fish to see.
