I just bought a little jug of Miracle Mud for my fuge project that has been delayed due to swine flu. I was reading the package and it said Copper as one of its many ingredients. It didn't say anything on the guaranteed analysis so I'm assuming theres not enough to cause any problem to inverts, just want to check.

what about rays?

inverts actually need to have trace amounts copper, as they use copper in their blood to carry oxygen, like we use iron in ours. they dont need rediculous amounts though... so dont go using anything with copper in to treat your tank (if you ever need to). using miracle mud will be fine, there are only trace amounts in it.

That's true...

Another question. As far as macro algaes go for the fuge, the best thing I have available to be is Chaetomorpha. What else should I put in there besides that, the mud, and small bits of LR?

more of all the above :)

you may wanna put a reverse lighting cycle on the refugium. it will keep your ph stable... or just run the lights on 24hrs. if you can afford to. i cant :irked:

you could add caupera, but it can become unstable if it runs out of food. as it dies off and releases spores/seeds. so it needs pruning back once in a while, so it never uses up all its food. and doesnt get the chance to reproduce.

New question:

It says you can "add quarantined fish after the cycle period." I'm assuming this is for brand new tanks, but I just want to know if this stuff will cloud my tank/alter parameters for awhile once it's first put in.

24 hour lighting on your sump doesn't actually help anything, just wastes electricity, if you keep light on your plants 24/7 they don't get a rest period to metabolize the chlorophyl they produce while the lights are on, and in turn remove less nitrate and dissolved organics from your system.

well there you go... run a reverse cycle instead :)

it will probably be the same as adding new live rock to a mature aquarium. add a little at a time, otherwise your tank may do a re-cycle if you add the lot in one go.

this is just my guess... ive never used miricle mud. so i may be talking crap :naughty:

better safe than sorry though.
