So 1 of my female rays miscarried today. I’m not sure which one as I wasn’t even certain any of the 3 were preggers. It had to have been very early in the pregnancy though as I found a tiny dead pup in the tank. Only 1. Maybe others got eaten. Maybe there were no others as none of them had had pups before. The water was awful so doing an 85% water change as we speak.

My question is what do I need to watch for in terms of behavior if it was only a partial miscarriage that could end up killing the female in question?

Thanks for any guidance.

The positive take away is the male is clearly fertile 🤷🏻‍♂️

All part of the game imo… whichever one it was could still be holding more. Ur male could have pestered her into dropping early and like u said it could just be her first round and things like this happen. I had 1 female that would make it to pup movement then absorb the pups multiple times. In just about every successful littler i did have there were always also underdeveloped blobs like this included also whether a male was present for birthing or not. All kinds of things can happen.

Chaulk it up to a positive tho really. One step closer to a successful litter. I wouldnt worry too much as long as she keeps eating and acting normal. Preview for u of what to expect during birthing. Auto drips are nice to help curb some of the cloudiness and you can turn em up to flush the tank over a day or so. She may have been tagged again already as well. After seeing a few birthings and immediate grapings 😂💀… i started to separate the males. Just keep an eye out for pup movement or over agression and respond accordingly.

Appreciate the response mate!
Are you saying it is possible that the female in question still has viable pups? The male was really going after the super hybrid female yesterday so I am assuming it’s her.
I’ll keep an eye on things.
