Missing fish lately

As a kid I worked briefly in a tannery. It's the kid's job to go out back and bring in the hides that others have dropped off in a pile behind the shop.

Oh my.

That was a revolting job by any standard.

Lol, funny, isn't it? I can't help but notice some of the things we did "for fun"...especially when we were younger...that would cause us to balk and complain relentlessly if an employer suggested we do them as part of our job, i.e. for pay...

I've skinned hundreds of coyotes, sometimes 4, 5 or 6 on good days, and as much as I admire and appreciate them, they are one of the stinkiest, skankiest, most flea-and-tick-infested and generally disgusting creatures I have handled. Skinned warm, the external parasite load demands the use of liberal quantities of insecticide powder, which in turn calls for gloves, lots of ventilation, masks, etc...but allow them to freeze/thaw first, and while the parasites are no longer an issue, the skin comes off only grudgingly and with considerably more effort. There is no easy, pleasant way to get that wonderful fur off one of those rascals; it gets faster with experience, but it's never fun and it's usually done in extreme cold conditions to add to the joy...

But...if an employer had ever told me, asked me, or in any way suggested that I do that on a jobsite...whoa! Call the Ministry of Labour, the Health Department, the media and maybe get an exorcist from the Catholic Church for good measure...:)
