I had an EBJD in my 75 grow out for a few months now. I look today I can’t find him anywhere. Lifeted a few rocks, no fish I don’t think can eat hims he was probably 2.5 inches,
Stock is
2 false jags cats - 4-5 inches
1 jag cat- 7 inches
3 red hooks 3 inches
3 blue goirami - 3 inches
6 Cory - 2 inches
M.dayii spiny, and peacock both around 6”
A 4 inch Parrot fish” hybrid “
1 pink kisser
3-4 inch tig
Nothing looks big that they ate him. I’m lost lol .
Also not sure what white mark on false jag are... nothing else is sick he eats fine

My guess would be the tig.

Looks like scratch marks on the false jag catfish.

That’s what I was wondering but he’s been healthy I don’t see him just dropping dead. And he’s like more that half the size of the tig and he’ was thick it’s just hard to believe lol

He still could have died. Many cichlid keepers including myself have experienced sudden deaths of what we thought were healthy fish.
But is it possible he jumped?

I was thinking that. I checked around tank and I couldn’t find him, I was thinking maybe the cats got him as they did smell fishy the other day but I swear I saw him like 2 days ago

It is rare for a fish to be swimming one day then die the next EBJD can be like that it looks like you dont have lids on your tank so maybe he jumped

My money is on the fish suddenly died and was scavenged by it's tank mates. Either that or it's hiding.

7/10 EBJD's seem to drop dead around 2-3" for no apparent reason. I think the genetics of the fish are just not very strong due to all the inbreeding used to get the coloration.
