I havent seen my zebra Mantis in a week! I can always find his burrow until now. I just got done blasting my sand with a powerhead trying to find him and fried my powerhead in the process. He recently ate a medium damsel and I only saw him a few times after that. Im starting to worry now.

Recently I added a large brittle starfish...I doubt that could eat him but

Anyone have any ideas? The tank has no fish no larger inverts except the starfish. He molted last month so I doubt he would be molting again. :nilly:

And there is no way it escaped the tank. Its not in the filter either

could he of gotten under any of the rocks or other decor?

I just lifted them all up. Its only a 14 gallon so there arnt too many places to go. He has gone missing beneath the sandbed for a day or two before but not this long. Ive never gone this long without feeding him before either. I dont get it. I blew up the sand where he normally is and didnt find a carcass or anything which is I guess good but I still have no idea where he could be

Either check inside all media and filtration as hi might be inside, If not that he may have molted again and caught by your brittle star.....they aren't called "the green death" for nothing man:screwy:

Crap i didnt even think about it getting caught while molting...

They only molt every 6 months though

not if kept in good conditions and fed regularly they molt a lot sooner, every 6 months is just what they should be doing not what they are doing.

ok good news! After tearing down my entire tank (my corals are not happy)

I found him! I was scooping out all the sand and then right as I got to the last bit he came shooting up and actually like 6 inches out of the water! scared the **** out of me. But hes there and good. Now I just have to put my tank back together :wall:

:ROFL:LMAO, thats good you found him. Now get rid of that brittle star before he actually does catch your zebra and show you why they get their name (green death)
