I just bought a used 75 gallon tank. The guy says it is around 15 years old, but that it has never leaked. However, It doesn't look like there is any silicone on the inside edges. There is a thick layer around the bottom, but hardly any at the corners. Should I reseal it to make sure?

Reading your title, I thought you meant this kind:

I would get some silicone, seal the areas you think look thin, and fill it with nothing in it to make sure.

^^that offended me. im telling neooooooooooooooooooooooo...
lol, jk. i would reseal it just to make sure. it cant hurt.

Should I remove what is already there?

Do I need to do this outside? I think I will probably test it to make sure it doesn't leak in the garage anyway. Does it smell bad or anything?

It smells like uncured Silicone...Strong Vinegar! at first then when it is cured it has no smell...
Good idea to do it in the garage first then check for leaks...be sure to let it cure ALL the way before testing...

When resealed tanks leak, how fast is it usually? And how soon after adding water? I am going to have a hard time convincing my dad to help take it down to the garage again.

I'm sure your Dad would rather it leaked in the garage than upstairs...
of course we are assuming it leaks now...
Have you tested yet?
Just because it doesn't have gobs of silicone on the vertical corners means it leaks...it could be fine right now...

The tank is 15 years old and has probably 1/4 the amount of silicone as my other 75. It doesn't leak as far as I know, but it isn't going to last forever. It would be a ton easier to reseal it now than in a few years if it does start leaking.
