mississippi map turtle needs some serious HELP!

Are the markings on top of the shell, or does it look like part of the shell is missing, revealing the underlying bone?

when i run my finger on the shell, it doesnt feel like theres a patch missing or anything like that.

It's mineral deposits.......Just about every Map Turtle has/gets them........There's nothing wrong - It'll shed off, then start again.......

Sounds like hard water stains to me as well. Also, you have a false map (G. p. pseudogeographica), not a mississippi map (G. p. kohni). Yours has the hockey sticks behind the eyes, not the crescent around the eye like kohni.
