I was thinking the same thing Peanut. That looks just like a True Stigata to me.

I've seen them in person and they are quite the sight lemme tell yaz. As for the marm, the coloration almost makes me think she might actually be a strigata....since she is lackin the verticle bars, as some strigatas have the almost same coloration. Either way, she is a SEXY fish!

thats why I asked cause all the females I've seen are darker or at least more coloration...

We got the female (and a male, both were 5-6") in November '04 from a reputable source in northern N.Y., along with a trio of lenticulata. I'm quite sure this is a Cr. marmorata sp., similar to photos in Aqualog. The male only lived for 2-3 months (we think she killed him). She hardly grew for several months - then finally started eating better, bulked up and grew into the thirteen inch beauty she is now. The male ven acts like they're a 'bonded' pair, tho have never seen their tubes drop. Hope they don't spawn, we've had a lot of other American cichlids cross-breed, would prefer "true" fry.

We got that female marmorata sp. Nov '03 (not 2004). She is mostly a good-natured fish, doesn't harass tankmates but does have her moments, as a pike! Sometimes gets into it with the male ven, but they're usually laid back. He is more of a 'chicken' than her, stays more to himself in his cave...

About a week ago we saw that the male's mouth was raw & scraped - almost up to his eyes - from fighting... & his tail fin was 2 shades whiter from nipping. THE FEMALE MARMORATA PUT HIM IN HIS PLACE! She had some fight marks also, but not near as bad..
Put a divider in between them. Introduced some other community fish yesterday after a 50% water change and took out the divider - all is well! They're hanging out together with no problems. Must've been a lover's spat......... just another episode of life with PIKES!
