Mixed Severum breeding questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've also heard they will more than likely eat the first couple batchs of eggs?

Most look fertile (except the white ones)so far.
Some will look like the mother, some will look like the father, some in-between.
But with the JD in the tank, few will survive.

I don’t know that I agree with this. Usually in the first breeding between a gold/red and a non-leucistic Heros, all the fry are normal colored. The exception is if the non-leucistic Heros has gold/red recessive genes from one of its parents. Then you may end up with a percentage showing the gold/red trait.

Personally I wouldn’t raise or distribute the fry. It just adds more mutt fish into the hobby.

Largely agree with Ryan. Considering gold and red spots are line bred derivations from common 'green severums', fry from crossing them back tend to revert back closer to the original type. How much might vary but it's not the same as a true hybrid cross between separate species or crossing specific genetic percentages with known results, as in EBJD.
