Sooo second attempt at hydrocynus brings me this far : a 6x3x3 tank 6000 lph filter 2 x 7000 lph powerheads as the fish are small ( to start ) a selection of large pieces of bogwood in tank, imported half a box got six vittitus two goliath 2 vitts doa, so put four vitt and two g,s into tank with a load of ditherer fish all good, thinking 4 vitts is not enough ordered in (from a local supplier) two more which I put in today and I'm pritty sure they are forskahlii the supplier has loads of these as he puts it 'other' tigerfish, so huge dilemma do I get a shoal of fatf if thats what they are and ditch the g/vitts or run as I am and see what happens, for info next tank will be min 8x4x4 if I can get a shoal happening.
Pitch in people what would you do ?

I would take them out if they are fatf ...... fatf growth wont come close to a gatf ..... vatf is the closest thing..... the gatf will outgrow the fatf in no time ..... i wouldnt risk it due to the size diff but im no expert.... hopefully others will chime in

I would of just kept 6 vatfs and not of mixed them but thats just me

Looks beautiful.

Just make sure there's live guppies/feeder fish in your tank to keep them from eating each other. VATF is nippy so keep an eye on them. You will have hard time to wean them off live in that size of tank

While GATF may be the biggest species in that tank, they grow freaking slow

Two (both small vitts) are already eating pellet the others are lunging but stopping short , they are in with a load of high speed barbs who feed like nutters so it is getting them going ! The two biggest vitts had a stand off, one more power head and Lots more ditherers going in tomorrow , the biggest fatf is as long a the biggest vitt but much thinner with a smaller jaw ...thanks all

If you are half way to getting off live then just finish it. It will save a lot of maintenance in the long run.

I had one GATF mixed with VATF and he was bigger by about 2 inches. He wasn't too aggressive but I've heard that they don't mix well with other GATFs.

My $0.02 is to keep lots of dithers, current and clean water. I hope it works out.

Spot on fella exactly how I was thinking nitrates will be under 10, just moved away from marines so water quality is easy for me, there is a good flow but gonna get a gyre water mover up to 20,000lph nice bit of kit. Interestingly the fatf will not join the the other tigers ! is this a very early sign they will not mix I wonder. All four vitts and both g,s shoal together esp after a feed but the fatfs are lurking amongst the wood, there are loads of lively mixed species barbs hammering around the tank they even nip at the biggest vitts every now and again ! Keeps em on there toes ;). Really enjoying watching the behaviour of these fish ! photos to follow
