I have a mix in my 125 gallon. So far, so good. Bifasciatus, convicts, firemouth, electric blue hap, nimbochromis venustus, OB mbuna, clown loaches, giant danios. All cichlids are male. I call it the United Nations tank. All fish are adults and I have no aggression issues at this point. Just wondering if anyone else is trying this approach and would like to know your results. Thanks in advance.

I have a 8" midas in my all 220G male hap/peacock tank and everyone is fine. He is the king of the tank abd there is not much aggression.

It can work, I mix my new world and old world during grow out presently. As they get old I tend to brake the into african tank and SA tanks but it can work I have had Green terrors and Jacks in with my peacocks and haps with no real issues. I had Loiselli adults in my big hap/peacock show tank and it did not work because the africans feed much more aggressively then the Loiselli and they just did not eat. Like everything else sizes does matter I keep some real monsters 16+ inches these will not mix with 5 to 7 inch africans no matter that the temperament is

I completely forgot I have a SA in my tank currently LOL. Right now there is a juvenile Jack Dempsey (about 2") in with multiple Mbuna, a 6" Texas, 2 Jewels... You get it haha

I have fish from several different locales in my tank, but as far as I know they are all tank raised an no wild caughts - this is usually the way to go since they've been acclimated to tank life since birth. I have an African Bichir, an Australian Stonefish, several SA cichlids (Dempseys, Oscars), Peacock Bass, Red Pike, Shovelnose Cat, they are all relatively the same size and not picking on each other at all. I keep their temperature around 76-80 and provide a variety of froze and live foods. No issues after about a year....

Been mixing the two for over 20 years with no issue. The difference in personality, body shape and colour prove ideal to keep aggression low. Like mentioned above, make sure the dominate species is the American Cichlid and larger then the rest of the africans (Currently have a 10 inch Texas who runs my mixed tank)...I find this works real well.
