Is any members successfully mixing aro's with aggressive CA cichlids? If so what species (both aro and cichlids) I am strongly considering picking up a black aro for my 300 gallon but have some aggressive (down the road anyway) CA's. Vieja zonatus and a cuban pair. I have never owned an arowana and am not new to the hobby, just new to aro's.

Anyone have any advice or first hand experience to share regarding mixing the two?

Justin...good question. I will be interested in seeing the replies too.

a couple years ago i had success keeping a 14" jaradini and pair of 12" oscars

if the aro has some size to it(12+") i wouldnt worry too much. ive had it go either way, just keep an eye on em and be prepared to seperate if needed.

X2

I've had all aro's in every tank i've had for the past 5+ years and have kept them all with SA & CA cichlids. I had the black aro i have now with Festae, and that female festae was a real "B" too. But never messed with the aro at all.

That is exactly what I was hoping to hear, someone having done it. The festae I have now are fry of your old female. Good to know that could work if my 300 gallon doesn't. Anyone else? I have to think the different body shape and occupancy of the tank helps mesh one another well?

Hi,

You can keep Jaguars and Green Terrors, If the are large enough as compared to the size of arowana....The ratio should be 5:3 (Arowana: CAs)

The keeping of black/silver arowana with large aggressive SA/CA cichlids is a a pretty common combination. Where you can get into trouble is with having the arowana too small. If the arowana is under 6" I would not recommend having it with any tankmates. Once you grow the arowana out to 10-11" you can mix with cichlids, but keep the length of the cichlids to about half of the arowana's length. Between 6 and 10" is a gray area, you may be able to do the mix, but the safer path would be to wait a couple months for the aro to be 10".
