mixing eels?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
potentially very bad.. really depends on the species and setup intended.

in my experience you can mix different species of macrognathus and mastacembelus without any problems as eels are quite social fish and do better in larger groups anyway. but would not mix these species with freshwater moray eels as it would most likely end badly. i would maybe just be carful with size different so would not for instance put a 30" fire eel with a 2" peacock eel apart from that enjoy them there lovely creature's hope this helps

I have a 14" Black spotted eel with my 16" fire eel

I have 2 fires and a tire track all around the 14" mark. The fires are inseparable. They swim together, feed together and are always poking there heads out of there spot together. Hopefully the trio stay tolerant of each other. They are in a 180 with loads of hidy holes. Soon to be going in a very large new home.

ive had issues now a few times at the 2 yr mark... until then most stayed together fine. groups work best unless you get a bonded pair.

Mixing different types of Mastacembelus and macrognathus is easy, there are a few Fire and Tire track eels that get agressive with one another though, so keep an eye on the tank for the first few weeks!
Mixing anguilla species with one another is the same, I don't know about morays though.
But I guess you were talking about spiny eels anyway.
