Hi All,

Went to the lfs today and they have African Knife & something called a Tiger Knife.

The Africans were out and about. But the Tigers were hiding and seemed secretive.

I currently have a bgk in my tank. Would it be possible to add either the African or Tiger?
I know not to have more than one bgk. But can you mix different species?

Thanks

Hi,

I see there is a similar thread asking about African Knfe Fish.

Any comments on the Tiger Knife though?

Thanks

Alright, I highly doubt that they are Tiger Knives, but pics would tell all I guess, lol. Very rare to come across, and really expensive (IMO). Most likely they are Carapo Knives or Gymnotus Coatesi, in which case a Carapo would be a no, and I'm not sure about Coatesi. There might be possibility that it would work.

they might be centepide knifes or banded knifes. but to answer your question you could mix black ghost knife and african brown knife. i have both in my 125 and they could care less about each other. although they might fight in a small tank. i think you need to at least have a 90 gallon to keep both peacefully

No Latin name given. The label on the tank at the lfs just said "Tiger Knifefish". I should have taken a photo with my phone.

And not that expensive. Only £10, about the same that I paid for my bgk

I'd just assume that it wouldn't be a Tiger Knife just based off that price. ;) Sounds way too low for a Tiger.

Well this same lfs was selling some Plecs way cheaper than I have seen elsewhere. Perhaps they got a bargain shipment of fish?

These knives seemed very secrative.
I know that most species hide during the day. But in their tanks, the bgk and Africans were swimming round. While these supposed Tigers were hiding under a rock.
Are Tigers more secrative than other species?

Well, usually the price for a Tiger is about 100USD, which hearing your pirce just seems too good to be true. And most Gymnotus species are usually very shy, until the lights go out of course. ;)
I'd make sure that you can get a good view of the fish before buying one. :)

at that price i would guess it was a zebra knife - not sure on the latin name though - the whole common name thing sucks imo

What are the requirements for a Zebra?
How big do they get?
