I am looking for people to write their experience with the following

1. mixing male peacocks in show tanks
2. mixing peacocks with breeding intentions
3. Mixing all male peacocks and haps
4. Mixing a breeding group of haps and peacocks in the same tank.

General information would be the types you have mixed for each, your overall experience, and then your recommendations for others trying this same idea.

My hopes are that we can explore the realities and theories and share this so others can benefit. I know many on this site are looking into breeding.

Mike

Thanks for posting this Mike...I too would like to see what others have found in their experiences.

iv found that in my 8ft only my big jacobfriebergi will breed out of malawi's but as soon as i put my female neochromis in she will have a mouth full by the end of the week easily.
but i woulsd not reckomend mixing for breeding intentions as they just wont breed

Not only will they not breed you most likely won't be able to differentiate the females. A lot of peacock females are almost identical. Inbreeding is a concern with mixing all peacocks as well. I don't do it or reccommend it.

Haps and peacocks on the other hand breed well mixed together. In my 90 gallon breeder I breed Borleyi, Hap. Flamebacks, Aulonacara Albino Maleri and Oto Lithobates.

I am well aware of the theories and trouble with mixing females. I would like to have people as Jhutch did, share what species they have breed with having mixing, and which have you not had success with. Please when sharing, explain the setups. Like Jhutch did with a 90 gallon and the species. If do able give number of fish for each type.

Not being rude, but I can not understand anything you have said above...

I am very interested in this as well. This basically explains what I am looking to do in my soon to be 90g.

So far the plan is to have 1 Ruby Red male and 3-4 females.

Now I am looking for something else to put in with that mix. Something the peacocks wont breed with and possibly even another breeding harem of something else would be cool.

My 90 gallon consists of a

trio of wild Copad Borleyi
5 Oto. Lithobates
a pair of Aulonacara Albino Maleri
a pair of Hap. Flameback
2 large Synodontis Eupterus
1 Synodontis Frontosus
1 6"+ common pleco

2 Large pieces of Lace Rock
3 sponge filters
2 HOB filters

This is my only mixed breeding tank because I don't have any others I could safely combine without the worry of hybrids or being able to differentiate the species(females)
