Mixing Piranhas with others

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Generally it is unwise to mixing a lone piranha with other fishes.

Nope. Think people use tin barbs as dithers for them, but no way it's gonna work out with the others.

Ok thanks guys. At first the guy said its a pacu but I can't tell the difference.
I would steer away from that fish if I were you and I would stay away from this guy at the lfs...he might tricking you to buy the pacu.

Not in a 125 with that other stock. Too crowded.

I have had a large pacu in a 120g before(other stock was similar to yours but also had a few large rtc and tsn), but got rid of him at 26" and he was growing over a inch a month. He was crashing my system. He ate as much as all the others combined, I used to have to throw handfuls of dogfood in the tank just before feeding so the others had a chance to eat also.

Pacu or Piranha its still a bad idea, it will cause a lot of stress on the fish, they are extremely incompatible, and imo its unfair for the fish, they don't choose their tank mates, you do!

You want a Piranha, get rid of th other fish and have a shoal in your 125. if its a pacu it gets as big as a bike tire....and by then you won't even be able to give it away. Think about the long term !
