i find out today about a new tank supposed to be aprox 500 gal eight ft long not sure on the other measurements yet ive heard 30 in and 48 in but the lady on the phone was clueless so we'll see anyway im thinking midas, a pike, and jag with a catfish and possibly silver dollars or something along those lines help me out guys you're the experts so far my cichlid exp. has been mainly jds, severums, and smaller cant wait to go monster

The Jag and Midas are probably going to be pretty agressive, but with that much space, they should be fine. You can probably get a TSN for a catfish and if you're just getting those 2 cichlids, get a few Pbass (good large non-agressive cichlids) instead of the Silver Dollars. But Silver Dollars would be nice and if you get them, get at least 6 so they can form a shoal.

nice to see a response i have been thinking about a tsn good call not sure on the pb the silver dollars would def be in a school but havent decided on them yet what do you guys keep with your cichlids always open to ideas thanx again

Dude!!Congrats on the tank. With 500g you've gotta lotta freedom with what you can put in.One thing to keep in mind is you wanna put the jag and midas in last if those are will be the most aggressive fish you will have(ie put the silvers in first). Also i agree with benjamin about the pbass and the TSN.you might also think about an arowana.Congrats again.

My silvers grew very very fast, I bought them at about 1" and within 2 weeks they were 2 1/2" i was amazed.. but they are a very skitish fish.... Imho i would try a arowana the tsn

in a tank that big you can make "almost" any combination work.

good to hear about the combos im not dead set on the silvers im just lookin for some schooling fish possibly i like giant danios also but i dont need schooling fish at all how big does the tsn get anyway and im not sure about the aro maybe a pike cichlid or something like that with a tank this size are pairs of any of these fish possible man i hope this works out

Skip the jag. go with a midas,V. argentea, tomocichla seiboldi, & hampala barbs (these are predatory & get about 20inches) for schooling fish. try a girrafe cat & maybe a large synodontis.

I disagree with skipping the jag, but a Vieja of some sort would be nice.

skippin the jag is not an option the midas and jag are the reason i want the tank everything else is just a bonus ha i love this hobby
