Mixing Sands .. ... ....

There seems to be a butt load of sand questions going around lately, so figured this was the best time to ask. :)

I LOVE the black Tahitian Moon sand, but its just too dark for my liking. I also LOVE pool filter sand, but I am wanting something darker.

Does anyone have any experience mixing these two sands together? What does it look like? What ratio did you use?

Better yet, what other colors of sand are available out there?

I haven't tried mixing these two types of sand together, but I think for them to mix well they will have to be similar in grain size. I have mixed the Tahitian black moon sand with the moonlight white sand and it didn't turn out as great as I had wanted it because the white sand was a lot finer.
 
Yeah. I think the black moon and the pool filter are pretty close to similar size. I'm worried about it lookin trashy though...lol. Don't want to try it in my 300gal then have to scoop it out and try again. Perhaps a smaller tank first would be a good idear...lol.
 
Thanks for starting this thread. I have read other people mixing it on various forums but have yet to see pictures. If there are pics out there that would be supah!

Maybe test the mix in a glass jar this way you can keep them separate if you wish.

look @ the 3M sands.... google for there site but they have multiple colors... might have something you will like...
