I have a mixed River sand with Beach sand.

show us some pic!:) well I have seen some mixed pool filter, fine black riversand and a fine crushed lava rock

I have white pool filter sand. I'm planning on adding black sand as the current sand needs to be replaced (from loss during water changes). even if they are different grain sizes, they should stay pretty well mixed. I stir up my sand at least once a week. a layered look would be kinda cool, too.

First it was just river sand, but I added beach sand in the tank to look like "snowy effect" but then the eels and bichirs messed it all up.

PP call up your local sand blasting company. Ask them for a bag of sand blasting grit/sand this stuff is great looking, and doesn't ever need to be rinsed, and is inert. You can also get garnet sand blasting grit which has a maroon color.

Just wanted to clarify a bit...if you go this route, you want sandblasting SAND, not grit...grit can mean LOTS of different things (coal slag, silicon carbide, aluminum oxides).

Wasn't aware of that, thanks for the heads up.
