Its time to re-do my sons 20gal tank in his room. I brang him to the lfs the other day and he got really excited over Black Phantom Tetras. I want to pick up 6 for a small shoal, but would like to possibly fill the tank a little more. Is there another species of Tetra (or any small fish species) that will peacefully cohab with the Black Phantoms? I know not all Tetra species get along or shoal together. If no other species will/can cohab, I can always buy more Black Phantoms, but obviously would like to try to add more colour first.

My son thanks you in advance lol

Small danios would work, also u should grab a couple snails and possibly a cray fish.

Danios I wouldnt mind. I was looking at a few of them as well as white cloud minnows, stuff of that sort. Basicly anything small and eye catching that can live a full life in a 20gal.

The shrimps are a good idea for a small clean up crew, only downside is its a bare bottom tank so its usualy pretty clean as is. I was thinking about adding some black sand to help bring out the tetras colour though. If I add sand I will definitely consider some shrimp, any recommendations? Or just stick with the classic ghost shrimp?

I'd say throw two Cory Cats in there, and a bunch of Neon Tetra to add color. Giant Danio would be a cool mix too (because they're so friendly they'll eat from your hand).

But i believe you can pretty much put them with any other community fish that's available at the LFS.

Also look into some real plants like a couple of java ferns. Get rooted plants, not a bunch of stems rubber banded together because stems don't last.

And post some pictures so i can get some ideas. I can't wait for my boys to get a little older so I can set them up with tanks
