Time for a question i know many of you have heard before... can i mix tree frogs? I currently have a cuban tree frog and she is in a ten gallon high (it is a normal 10gallon actully, but i bought a metal screen that is about the size of a 5 gallon, so really it is a 15gallon high:D) and sometime hopfully within the next month i will be buying a 20gallon high to move her into. Are there any other kinds of frogs (other than more cubans) that i can put in there? I was thinking about putting mabye a golden tree frog (Polypedates leucomystax) or a white's tree frog (though i know whites will soon need bigger than a 20gallon). Is there anyway that one of these two frogs could co-exist with a cuban. Also hopfully within the year they may be moved to a standard 29gallon once my brown ghost knifefish gets bigger. thanks for any info u can give me.

The main thing is making sure no frog is able to fit inside another frog's mouth. If this is a remote possibility, I wouldn't risk it.

That aside, as long as the enclosure is large enough to accomodate all frogs, you're probably fine. Of course, you need to make sure all of them are eating, and not just one frog hogging all the food. And there's the issue of possible disease/parasite transmission between different species.

i have a massive 120 tall mix tank with 2 geckos a pacman frog and a walking frog and they seem to get along fine just make sure their sizes are close and they like the same conditions and they should be fine

ok, well i have checked and the golded and white's both get close or equal to the cuban in size and they all need close to 80 degree temp so i think i should be fine.

Cuban Treefrogs?

You DO know what their main diet in the wild is? ... Froggies and lizzies.

yes i know that in the wild they eat the other tree frogs. mainly the smaller species that only get 2 or so inches while the golden can get upwards of 3inches and the white's can get near 4.

Lol... a Cuban Tree Frog ate a friend of mine 4" SVL Draco...

Do not mix tree frogs. Cubans will eat anything they can get their hands on or anything that will remotely close to fit in their mouth.
Nothing good ever come from mixing frogs. You are trying to mix frogs that would NEVER run into each other in the wild. YOu can pass along different parasites different diseases. If you do any kind of research you will learn / read that mixing frogs is not a good idea.
Cubans get very large and need a bigger tank than a 20 gal anyways without throwing in another frog or two to screw the situation up even more.
I have been keeping frog for a long time ( everything from darts to RETF and now mantellas) DO NOT MIX your frogs.

though this came across to me a bit on the rough side of the blade,I see his point.I think most of us want to tell you no but as we all know, you can search the web and see tons of ppl doing this. The thing is dude is when something goes wrong, those ppl usually dont confess to it or even tell anyone because they now know their frog died because of them just insisting on having a tank that would just look awesome with more than one type.I myself don't think its worth risking the poor frogs life that just happens to look yummy to the other one some day.We dont want to discourage you from keeping herps so we sort of try to be nicer at times but on this one dude I think we all wouldn't risk it.Do you not have room for more tanks?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,To the other poster, isnt geckos with a pac man like keeping goldfish with Oscars, lol?

You mean you understand HER point..
I am sorry if I came across harsh. I did not mean to. I own nothing but frogs they are my passion. And it irritates the heck out of me when people mix. Nine times out of 10 nothing good comes out of it. And as you say 2 week, 2 months down the road when there is a post saying why is my frogs sick why did my frog die, they fail to mention they had 4 different kinds of frogs crammed into a small tank.
I just think if people do any kind of real reasearch into the frogs they are getting they will know that the requirements are different and mixing is frowned upon.
I know some people think of frogs as disposable pets as most are pretty cheap and some people buy them on impulse. I think all pets no matter how cheap or plentiful should be researched properly and have a set up ready before they even are purchased.
I did manage to refrain from the commenting on the pac man / walking frog combo. I get nice points for that dont I ?
