Not sure what a females max size is. I think she still may have a lil more in her.

It is a Thorichthys Mixteco Gold. There also is a blue and a green vaeiety. Not sure what they recently have been renamed. Aureus Gold maybe??

...Bill

I think they get about 5''. They are one of the smaller thorichthys. I thought the aureus gold and blue were a different fish altogether, and they get a little bigger. I'm not 100% sure though.
It seems a lot of of the thorichthys (and maybe I should say most CA cichilds) really varry in color depending where you find them. I think there is even a gold meeki, but I haven't actually seen pics.

the name Gold (or yellow) meeki usually is referring to Thorichthys pasionis. You are correct that aureus gold and aureus blue are two variants of a different species.

MonteSS, mixteco golds are stunning fish once they reach adulthood. yours still has some growing to do. the majority of the helleri group of Thorichthys (aureus, maculipinnis, callolepis, helleri, mixteco gold/blue/green, socolofi) can take 2 years or more before they reach full adult color. I had the pleasure of visiting Rusty Wessel's fish house once and he has adult, fully colored specimens of every Thorichthys species and mixteco gold and helleri were by far my favorites. :)

For an example, from Rusty's place on the way to ACA this year. . . Aureus.

This guy wasn't even the best looking one in the tank, he was just dominant and strutting his stuff! I hadn't realized how good they could look. . . with a little time!

Thanks for the info on the meeki/pasions. Thank makes sense now. I read in a magazine that meeki and pasions are often found together.

Those look amazing. Firemouths are a poor representation of thorichthys, it seems.

I have seen some pretty stunning FM. I think a guy called mrfiremouth? had amazing FM.

They are probably so popular and overbred that their gene pool is watered down.

Thanks...Bill
