Modding FX5

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ha ha ive just found this great website for modding fx5s,il post the link up in a mo.

On a more serious note are the eheims as good as people say they are compared to the fx5?

Yup. If Eheims were the same price as FX5, Hagen would be outcompeted.

Anyway thanks for all the info. The reason I want to do this because my tank is slightly overstocked, it would be a fun project and I love those filter where you can just replace the top layer of foam, for FX5 you would have to lift the whole basket up.

Gonna try it once I get all the stuff.

As far as I can tell, not in many ways that really matter. Eheim 2262s might possibly be better at processing sewerage, might survive abuse better, probably have longer possible service intervals, might be more accommodating of user error. They're inferior to an FX5 in at least a couple ways that do matter, initial cost and ongoing cost.

As I think I've said before elsewhere, if you offered me an FX5 or an Eheim 2262 for free, I'd take the 2262, sell it, buy an FX5 and the media to fill it with, and pocket the change. With the difference in power consumption I'd continue pocketing about $70 (Australian) a year for the life of it in savings for running a 48 watt pump over an 80 watt. Your electricity may be cheaper.
