molly x platy

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
u know that does make sense...i remember reading a few years back now that mollies only need inseminating once and can result in 7 or 8 litters. sorry for the dumb question again.

red wag platy father and a creamsicle molly mother

I should also make one quick note about this:
The above fish would be if it was a hybrid would be a Platy x Swordtail x variatus x Sailfin molly x sphenops molly... It would be multiple hybrids combined.
All commercial platy and molly are highly hybridized already. Xiphophorus however cannot naturally hybridize with Poecilia.

ok i have a hybridization question what all can a guppy breed with besides other guppys

Guppies can naturally breed with Mollies and a few other closely related fish in the genus Poecilia. Very close relatives such as P. wingei (Endler's livebearer)they will easily hybridize with.

Molly x Guppy hybrids are rarely encountered and it is a rare event that the fry come to full development and survive. Below is a photo of one that I had in my collection for some time.

I have only dealt with a few..None where much to say anything about. They have a bit of orange or blue on the fins, maybe some spotting at times but otherwise they are dull and not very hardy. One hybrid I had was a snakeskin guppy X wild sailfin..This was interesting but nothing to write home to mommy about. It is rather rare to come about these fish, all that I have kept and worked with where either artificially produced or freaks that someone sent me.

i think guppy can breed with endlers and i know they can but dont usually breed with mollys
