MOMO EGGS!!! now what??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mthylene Blue ;) If none is available then Formalin and malchite green or Quic cure will work...... Quic cure I believe has both formalin and Malchite green..

Methylene blue is MY first and only choice now though ;) That is if you seperate them to a hatch and grow tank.

If you leave them with the parents You could throw some methylene blue in.. But you really shouldn't have too..

What are the paramaters of your water?

Do you have a ready source of live food for the first few weeks? Likely you will need live longer.. but you can get them onto powdered foods if you take the time to hang out with them ;) Trust me :) I;ve done it. Not my favorite way... but But there are still cichla from my last batch running around that were all but off live food by 2" and smaller. BBS is the easiest and has MUCHO Protein!! :)

Do you have extra tank or two for grow outs?

You will need to move the fry just before or just after they become free swimming for best survival rate... Or if you want any to survive past a week after free swimming in the tank stocked as it is.

thanks for the thoughts - i do have an option to pull the eggs out and put them in another tank - but i was thinking i was going to let the pbass be this time around and work that way - i have not taken the water parameters as i have tried to disturb the tank as little as possible during this who process - water temp is at, and is always around 84

food will not be a problem as i will get whatever the young guys will eat, and will move them to a grow out should i be successful in taking them out after they hatch -- if it doesnt work well this time around i will remvove the eggs next time (hopefully) they are laid

You could go other routes.. BUT>.. BBS is the most readily available high protein live food that is easy to learn ;)

Daphnia and other things moina or whatever are good.. but They can be difficult to keep going.... But I have heeard once you get them going well.. then you are on the road :)

i actually got home last night and 90% of the eggs were gone - i dont know if someone ate them or they were knocked into the gravel - the pbass were passively guarding what was left - they both at a ton last night - well see what happens with the eggs that are left - otherwise hopefully the second time is the charm
