Monarch Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Id say thats fair. I think vendors on here have them for $20 at less than half that size. Is it male or female? I personally prefer the look of the female. Shes WAY more characteristically guapote looking to me. Keep in mind, IME, they arent the most social cichlids. They hid 70% of the time and they were the biggest in the tank.

Heres mine last year at around 8 inches, before I got rid of them.

Its hit or miss, but they seem to be about the least aggressive parachromis IMO. Mine were pretty passive and were the biggest fish in the tank.

Sorry but I feel that statment is incorrect, Maybe if you said a loisellie I could aggree. Point blank its a guapote...parachromis....a territorial predator. But I do aggree that its a hit and miss and that if the Oscars are of decent size you will be OK.

Its not an incorrect statement with my experience, which is what I was stating.

To be fair though, the loisellei, after I added him to the tank, was about an inch bigger than the freddies, but was on par with a jag and not shy at all. He didnt hesitate to cruise the tank just looking for someone that wanted to spar. The freddies, on the other hand, hid in the darker parts of the tank most of the time, even before he was added.
