To clear it up, A "postal money order" ONLY comes from the US post offices. regular money orders are often phony and should be avoided if possible. If you have to take one for a purchase, deposit it but wait for the money to go into your bank before sending merchandise, they're often declined when submitted for payment.

Paypal is safe. You can use a credit card to make a purchase with paypal or it can come directly from your bank. When you use a credit or debit card the "merchant" never recieves your card numbers, so he/she can't abuse your account.

how much info do you need to give to get a "postal money order"?? is it obviously from the post office??

The big difference between Postal Money Order and Paypal is what happens when you get scammed by the seller. If you use money order and got scammed by the seller it becomes a federal crime and you can get the authorities to get the scammer and hopefully your money back. When using paypal it involves a lot of luck to get your money back from the scammer. Paypal doesn't really do anything or have the power to do anything other than possibly get your money back if the scammer has not transfered the money to his bank account. If you're using Paypal it's best to use a credit card to pay for your merchandise instead of straight from your bank account. By doing this you can call your credit card company and you can dispute the charges and get your money back.

To purchase money order just go to your post office and ask to purchase one. You pay the amount that you need plus some fees. It's going to be like a check so you can send it by mail to the seller. Keep the receipt cause if anything happens (seller never received it or got scammed) that's how you can get your money back.

I use money orders to buy stuff online. I get mine from publix (grocery store) I always keep the tracking number - you actually can get your money back if you save proof of guys exchaning online about the order and you can track the mo number to see if its been cashed - I dealt with alot of evil morons w/mo before and I always got it back if the tried to screw me. Anyways its pretty easy.
