i have a 150 and i want to add a mono and a FW flounder to it. dont know a thing about these fish like diet, behavior, habitat...etc. just that they are brackish. ive see them with frontosas before and thought id like one of each. i keep my tank salted up to 20% (dont know what that reads on a hydrometer) but the dither platies love it.
does anyone have experience enough with these two types of fish to say yay or nay to mixing these.
here's a stock list of my 150: pH 8.2 / temp 77*
6 frontosa4-5"
leleupi 3"
calvus 1.5"
caudopunctus 1.5"
bravis 1"
3 julidochromis 2-3"
y-lab 2"
red fin borleyi 3"
7 clown loaches 1-4"
clown pleco 2"
mad tom catfish 3"

Are you referring to the type of mono that i have pictured here in my 125?

Cool, I was just checking because their are numerous kinds of mono speceis out there. I say go for it. In the 2 years that i kept mine (and i wish i didnt trade them off) I never had any problems with them. They stay in the upper half of the tanks and are constantly moving around. I fed the tank NLS and Brine shrimp on occasion. They preferred the brine but did eat the NLS. Word of caution with them though is they like to school together so if you get just 1 it might be depressed. As they get older they do require a salt mix which you are allready doing so no probs there. I say pick up at least 3 of them and take pics

is there another species that would do better as a single. the tank is full as it is and i wont be able to upgrade for a few years so id like to add just one.

I was going to mention the fact that you are getting a little cramped in there, lol. They do best in schools but you might be ok with 2 of them. In my opinion i would try putting 2 of them in if there isint alot of fish that allready claim the up 1/3 of your tank. They are very peacful and can get away from any attackers VERY quick. VERY BEAUTIFUL FISH to say the least. Just as long as your filtration is top notch i wouldnt see it as too much of a problem. Someone else might chime in with another idea but i cant think of any others at the moment

all my fish hang out at the bottom of the tank with exception of a few dither platies. i need some top water fish. all my fish get along so i doubt the monos will be bothered. right now i have a 200g canister filter and 2 75g biowheels = 1050GPH = tanks nutnover 7X/hr. will that do?
the caudopunctus and brevis will probably disappear as the other fish grow, they max at 1" the y-lab and redfin will probably go to the 55 if the wife allows it!

Your filtration is adequate. Go for it bud. Tell your wife that a yellow lab all species tank is sweet. If she doesnt believe ya ill send you a pic of mine along with a ton of yellow lab fry each month, lol.

The flounder will most likely get harassed to death. I've had flounders on numerous occassions and I always end up with a species tank where I still end up target feeding each individual with a baby bird-feeding syringe. They are a PITA and I've seen them get picked on even by mellow cichlids like Laetacara curviceps.

shes got a 29 with acei, zebra, crabro, socolofi, kenyi...etc. i was trying to talk her into taking those two to seperate the tangs and malawis. what mono species would be best (not the biggest or most expensive)
