Mono Seabae's with Swollen Mouths.... help!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would definitely add quick cure to your tank, and pronto.

Please have your water checked, and let us know what it reads.

That has indications of poor water quality.

It is a general use medicine for fish. Its formaldehyde and something else I forget, fine for fresh and salt water and a really good general cure.

Definitely get us those parameters though.

Well I lost the pictured mono, the disease was too far advanced I suppose before starting my treatment... but my other 2 mono's of this species who were starting to develop the same symptoms have halted and then improved from the medications..

ive been using marcyn 2 + quick cure and melafix... I will update you all again if the disease dissapears entirely.

and as far as my water quality, i havent had a chance to get a test kit lately, but i do regular 25% changes every week, and also run a U/V sterilizer and protein skimmer on my tank.... so.... not sure how this disease happened. I will step up my water changes to 30% from now on in the future and make sure not to slack on it!

You mentioned you were running a protein skimmer so I'm assuming you have this water at full salt conditions?

In any event, I've had the most success in "curing" brackish fish of disease with a hospital tank where I'd do a dramatic change in salinity over a short period. It's horrible for bacteria, but your fish can adapt. In the most extreme case I've gone from full strength sea to almost no salt in a 24 hour period. The fish recovered in no time.

I then adapted the water's salinity back to the tank's parameters before putting the fish back in the main tank.

Good luck.
