Monoculus Peacock Bass Growout

Introduction: This is my third pair of pbass. I have the worst luck with these guys. They are hard to find in my area and the last two pairs died pretty quickly. These bass i got on 01-22-14 from Tropical Creations Inc and they were just over an inch long. I feel pretty good about these though, they got of to a good start and came in healthy. They are CB monoculus so nothing special but still cool bass IMO.

Growout: I have both pbass in a 75(4’x1.5’x1.75’) gallon aquarium. along with him I have a 3” polypterus endlicheri and two 4” raphael catfish. I keep the tank around 84 degrees fahrenheit and I feed twice a day. I usually give them thawed bloodworms or live guppies and ghost shrimp because I want to get them to be a little more comfortable and a little bigger before I start pellet training. They accepted frozen food right away which is good. Other than bloodworms I don’t know what to give them when they’re this small.

Plan: When they get big enough I will move them to my 180(6’x2’x2’) gallon aquarium. They will be living with my florida gar, ornate bichir, and endli bichir. I know that my tank is on the small size for these bass but I will most likely rehome them in 2-3 years when I go to college. But please no complaining about tank size.

Week 1: I’ve had them for just over a week now and they’re great. young pbass are fun to watch because they just don’t care about your existance. They don’t care if i’m near them or taking pictures or anything. They just swim around the tank looking for food as if no one was watching them. They have put on noticeable growth in this week and have nice yellow on their tails along with a blue sheen.

Also, I would really appreciate if you could help me with an aquarium related survey for a huge IB math studies project I have to do. Just post your country of origin and that's it. here is the link for that: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?569206-Please-Vote-IB-Math-Project-Survey

Omg that is the smallest bass I've ever seen! So misleading to what it can become haha nice lil guy!

oh gotcha I thought you were talking about what they'll grow up to be species wise.

These bass are currently around 1.5 inches long.

That too, when I would show people pics of adult Orino when they would ask what mine is they would be pretty surprised

Just a quick update: One bass died. Not sure why but he was the bigger of the two. I'm pretty bummed about it. The other bass is doing well expect for the fact that he has hardly grown since I got him. Like maybe half an inch in the last two months or so. But he is super cool! This fish is super friendly and isn't scared of anything. He always let's me know when he is hungry by following me around the top of the tank and when he is full he lounges around his favorite spots. Currently he is eating mostly bloodworms. I give him feeders whenever I can but they can be tricky for me to get. He will chew through 3 dozen rosies in 2 days with the help of his tank, poly endlicheri, and it really fattens him up. I'm going to wait till he is stable before I try to train him to eat pellets. The poly already eats NLS which is nice.
