Ha ha, thanks man. I picked up 15 juvies about a month ago. I had em in my big tank but didnt realise for a few days that the 2 bigger ones were eating the smallers ones. Just a mistake on my part. I ended up with 10 and lost 5 within a week due to what im assuming was sulphur poisening. My mates still has 17 of there brothers and sisters though. Im pretty keen for these guys to grow and get some colour, they so awesome even when small!!

you got them from Justin right $5 each.. yeh i was gonna pick up some and grow them out but they were all sold lol at least i can watch them grow through your updates lol..

tongue33. I live in australia so there is no such thing as wild caught here. It is illegal to keep grey listed fish such as the cichla sp. So they are very hard to find through an fish shop. Trading of these fish is relied on through private purchase. Anyway ive had the fish for about a month. But i gotta say when i got them they were tiny. Like 2cm- 3cm. They have grown to about just over an inch or so now. They seem to be ok in the current water but i still wanted to be sure.

If you have had them a month I believe you are good. Best for a stable tank rather than roller coaster pH. Your Cichla not being wild can play a huge role in what you should and could do....


Also What is your substrate?

silverdragon, yeah justin. between me and my mate we got 32 lol. I was suprised how tiny they were when we got there. still awesome though. my mate told me to buy em all. He has kept them for awhile, i guess thats why all his are still alive and im down to 5
but yeah keeping an eye on things and feeding these guys 4 times a day. If your after some ill let my mate know. When his grow up a bit he get rid of most of em anyway if your keen.

Tongue33 im just using standard gravel at the moment. i just did a big water change last night. Probably 30% and vac'd the gravel. Im wanting to upgrade to a larger tank when i can afford it and probably change to river stone for a more natural look.

hahha.. maybe when i get the 12x4ft tank running.. im not gonna put anymore in my tank for the time being other then a Tem that a fellow member is growing out for me.. incl the Tem that will be 8 cichla in my tank, i dont wanna push the stocking lol..

Cool I would just keep doing what your doing Many of the non wilds coming into the Wholesalers here are in higher 7's .
