i know you can add cattapa leaves to soften your water will help promote breeding along with one degree increases in temp a day and a lot of frequent small water changes and feeding them live foods will help promote breeding but i have also heard once you have the male and female, take them out and put them in a separate tank and if all is well they should breed.

You will notice that they swim together then kick the crap out of eahcother then lay eggs 
You can probably pull yours right now and vent them
THey are 10-12" right??? It will be easier once you have vented what you believe to be a male and female.. Also watch for two to pick on one.... When you see that.. Chances are you may have a pairing pair... If you are lucky the one being picked on will not jump ship 
R.I.P Moe I had no clue!! I seen all the tell tail signs... And had the tank covered.. Moe still made it out of a hole that was inconceivable to think of fitting through.. I racked it up to Heirarchy or a fly while I was christmas shopping.. And came home to DRIED up MOE But ya.. The pair from my limited one pair experience just like other cichlids

yeh my cichla are between 10 - 12", i might vent them, its such a mission though catching them.. ive layed down a couple of pieces of slate in one side of the tank incase a female decides to lay. come to think of it i see them scraping all the time, my male with the nuchal hump scraps with a couple of the others, could it be possible that theres more than one female.. ill read up on your venting thread tongue and see what ive got
