I've been interested in the debate between there actually being monster catfish around the dams of the U.S. I personally think any catfish over time could reach world class size in large bodies of water found around most large dams. Just from what I have been reading Blue Catfish seem to have the most potential to being monsters with fish in the late 1800's hitting the 150lb class, with some people talking about 300-350lb fish being captured. I'd personally love to scube dive some of these waters to find out myself. Heres some proof I just found.

Too true, but a massive catfish would have to be very old and very smart. Making them extremely difficult to catch.

As you said, there are huge fish in any big body of water. The attractive feature of this site for a diver is that the water appears amazingly clear. There are plenty of lunkers in Mississippi but hard to see them. On a side note, this site about the Hoover dam is splendid.

As for old and smart... the wisdom does not always come with the age. Sometimes the age comes alone... That's for humans :) Fish are the creatures of instinct, not intellect. There is a certain small degree of training that can be achieved but even that is based on pure instinct too. The nature of instinct is that it never changes. It is a constant. You'd notice it in yourself if you pay attention to your urges - they never change... without going into too many details.

I believe that if all fishes are left alone of course theired be monster sized fishes of any kind however with human interaction and fishing and eating and keeping ...who knows if there is any left ... none the less I believe there are some monster cats out there.
