Monster Compatibility Thread: Go or no go?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
At tha moment its a juwel 96, thou i have the money to buy larger and the space, am currently lookin for something i like... i am well aware this tank will soon be out grown. just wonderd weather its ok to get a gt before upgrading, or to wait or weater its a complete no go?

I think I would wait to upgrade with that big eel in there.

10" Water Cow (Eleotris picta) & 7" Jardini.

No...Bad idea, Jardini ended up being an expensive feeder. Do not underestimate the claim that a Water Cow can take prey 2/3 the size of him...it is VERY true.

leporinus fasciatus/rtbs, senegal bichir, ID shark
NO: the leporinus nipped everything and killed my rtbs. :swear:

Leporinus are notorious for being fin nippers. They are fairly aggressive.

In a 90 gallon:

12" Jag, add 2 6" oscars=harrassed and beat up oscars
12" Jag, add 7 giant danios=nervous and scared danios that don't get eaten because they are too fast for the jag but they commit suicide 1 by 1 by jumping out of the smallest of openings in the lid.
12" jag, add a 4" male convict=lived pretty much in peace for 2 months then the jag decided "I'm gonna eat you now-you are starting to annoy me."

In a 100 gallon long (6'x18"X18"):

14" Jag + 10" Red Devil + 10" High Fin Pangasius Catfish + 8" Gibbiceps Pleco + 2 Spotted Raphael Cats =a very entertaining mix after 2 months-the jag and devil fight and joust at times and at other times they look like they are best friends-weird! They both take shots at the Pangasius. The additon of the RD has made the Jag a less finicky eater (competition now). Many have said it is only a matter of time-someone is gonna get hurt real bad. Pleco is pretty much ignored as are the rapheals. Big monster tank needed in the future, I know.

My current crazy community setup:

265 gallon-7' x 2' x 2.5'

11" Dovii
8" Jardini (he's getting to that age-might sell soon if he goes loco)
6" Festae
4" Festae
6" Grammodes
10" Lenticulata
5" Indo Tiger Datnoids x 3
7" P. Senegalus
7" Longfin P. Senegalus
11" Ornate
14" Weeksii
5" Filament barbs x 2
3" Clown Loach x 2
5" Clown Loach x 3

So far, so good. Wish me luck.
