MONSTER DISASTER!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sorry about that!!!!! it sux

damn man that really sucks, losing any fish let alone an RTC blows, sorry to hear

some catfish and gars have well developed labrinth organs. They can gulp air in low water situations and still survive sometimes for days if there is enough moisture in the air. Unfortunately rtcs don't really have that well developed labrinths. They can survive in water with low O2 levels as I found out on accident one time, but not completely out of the water. Sorry for your loss. How big was the tank?

WOW.. .that sucks... she was a cute little (although chubby) RTC... As Necro said, some cats are better built for being out of water than others... RTC's just aren't one of them...

You have my sympathies for your loss. It's hard to lose a RTC as they are so friendly they become a instant member of the family.

sorry, that really sucks.

thats very unfortunate...RTCs breathe air so i would have expected it to survive a long time...but on the other hand...due to the huge surface area of the RTC's gills, it would also dry out faster...

Thanks everyone for your support!!!

My tank is a 75gal and I think the cause of the crack upon further investigation was because the tank wasn't well seated on its aquarium stand. There was a small small portion of the tank that was seated on the metal part of the aquarium stand and with the weight of the tank I guess that's what caused it. But it was like that ever since I set-up the aquarium ( 2 months ago ) I guess 2 months was all the glass could take from the weight.

Anyway... I just had that same tank repaired already. It's already being cycled right now. I would like to keep the gar in the pond because he can swim deeper and there's plenty of space for him but I'm afraid that he might jump out of it sooner or later. Not to mention that I have to get out of bed in the middle of the night just to check out if he's still in the water.

I'll get another RTC but it's going straight to the pond this time. By the way have you seen an e-cat out of water? looks like a flat tire:D

Sure learned alot from everyone here!!! Thanks again everyone and I'll post some pics as soon as I get the chance!!!

downsouth out!!!
