I also went with this design because I now can use the canister in full for awesome mechanical filtration. The spray bar is currently holding about 3.5 gallons of bio balls. If 1 canister shuts down I will lose half flow. But all the media will still see water flow and hopefully keeps bacteria alive and fed.
