Hey all.. I've recently taken down my tanks and gotten rid of my fish because I moved. It sucks! I miss having them and where I live now I can't have a big tank. The only thing I may be able to have is a 10g, that is if I can get my "landlord" to let me lol.. As some of you may remember, I'm a goldfish lover. Yup goldfish.. please don't click the back arrow now just because I said the word "goldfish" lol I need some input! If I'm able to get a 10, I want but 1 tiny baby shubunkin goldy. After having them I noticed they didn't grow quite as quick as commons/comets. I know how big they get but I think if I keep up on maintanance I can keep it healthy.

So.. what's good or too much? I have a topfin 30g hob filter but then I also have a topfin 60g hob. Would that be too much? Would it suck too much and suck my little fish onto the intake? The fish I will be getting is 1-1.5" lol...

I'd be doing 30% water changes with a syphon weekly and then upping the % as the fish grew. Any input from my fellow fish lovers would be greatly appreciated!

I don't want to really buy anything for it lol I'd rather use what I've got. Here is my crappy rendering using the paint program of the layout I'm considering :D

try throwing some pothos or peace lilly in your hob filter, that's what I do for my guppy breeding 10 gallon tank and it puts a nice dent on the nitrates. I'd be interested to know if it worked for a goldfish
This is how I do it

1. do not place a shubunkin in a 10 gallon. it would outgrow in in 5-6 months, even a baby...

2. i would never place a goldfish in a 10 gallon period, even a slow grower.

Can it be done, sure, should it be? no, not in my opinion.

Instead, why not a few golden barbs (much like little goldies in many ways) and some cory cats?

Just my thoughts... :)

Put an FX5 on it, Do a DIY spray bar that lines the top perimeter of the tank.

Do filter maintenance every 6 months.
