Monster Fish collection change of heart

Ive kept lots of different fish over the years and I find that combining medium sized cichlids with eachother and other non cichlids works best. you get all areas of the tank movement, you get the interesting cichlid behaviours and the interesting shapes and behaviours of the other fish. just make sure nothings too aggressive and nothings too small and its probably the least stressfull yet fun to watch tank you could have.

Don't understand why so ,many people let the hobby burn themselves out. I have been doing this hobby for 40 years and have never been without a tank. My secret keep 2 tanks and I love it to death. No finacial worries no heavy water changes no large food bills. I have had just about every fresh water fish at one time or another but never many tanks at one time. I enjoy feeding my 2 tank and doing water changes. I currently have an 85 with an L-25 pleco a colony of peachhead geos and some large roseline sharks. Also have a 50 breeder with a nasty grammodes by himself. Both tanks have bogwood and black gravel and I have had them this way for a few years now and love it this way/ bottom line you gotta find what you like. Don't be afraid to donate some fish that are stressing you out. Forget selling them . I recently donated a large L-600 to someone on this site and he was expensive. Keep what enjoy and donate the stress causeers.

Hello; Been at fish keeping over fifty years and agree with this. I got away from the big fish decades ago. I find the smaller species to be more enjoyable now, perhaps with even more interesting behaviors. I also have gone to somewhat easier to maintain setups.

I've been keeping fish for a while. And often thought this was Monster Fish Keeper's. By the looks of what some of you are saying, this now seem to be. Every Day Fish Keepers

yeah i agree, keeping 2 tanks seems to be the best thing to do because it allows you to have 2 completely different kinds of set ups. i had my tropical fish tank indoors and my large koi and goldfish pond outside and i was very satisfied because it allowed me to have my 2 favourite kinds of fish at the same time. i personally have never kept anything huge but i can see how it can become overwhelming after a while, but with that being said everyone has their own taste

If you mean make an internal shift with fish, I did it. When I started(1990) I quickly got into Cichlids, loved dumping feeders in and watching them chase them and eat them. Then I outgrew that to where I would dump them in and walk away. Then got tired of them all together and started going with peaceful fish. By 1995 and 26 tanks later I felt the burn out and decided to cut back. In 2 years I was down to 17. By 2000 I think I was down to 3-5 tanks. In 2003 my 190 broke a seal, so I lost my biggest. I was down to an 80 gallon (in my bedroom) and a 125 in another room.

When my wife came into the scene she made me take down the 80, which at the time I only had like 5 fish. Later she let me start a 20 gallon(for her(she hates big tanks)). In 2008 when we moved she would not let me bring the 125 in the new house(no room). I traded it for a 55 with someone. Later another friend gave me a 75 which took the place of the 55.

Outside she was/is ok with me to have a pond, but being out of work, I'm not going to spend money on one.

Putting price tags on this hobby can be very dangerous to your happiness. When I buy a fish I write off whatever I spent on it and if I ever see that money again that is a bonus. Just treat it like gambling if you can't afford to lose don't play.

I remember the first time I bought a fsih over 100 dollars it was an african tiger fish and for three days I was paranoid and watched it like a hawk lol

Now we won't talk about what I am willing to spend on fish :)
