Monster Fish for a Fluval Edge - Help Please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Go planted. I think that's best for small tanks. It really helps to keep the ammonia down in these nano tanks from my experience. I'm running a little 5.5G right no actually that has 2 bettas, but like stated above won't work with the fluval edge because of lack of room for O2. Go with plants and some tetras (rummy nose are my personal favorite) and maybe even a cory. I know some are gonna say that's overstocked but I've made it work for over a yr before with little problems with ammonia. Just don't rush the cycling part or you're gonna have crashes every week lol.

Possibly some neons? Like, 5 or 6. Rummynose get much larger and "a" cory wouldn't work; they are schooling fish as well, so a school of them would probably cause the tank to be overstocked. I'm not sure about how neons would act toward shrimp, so you might want to check into that. It would suck if they nipped at them, and I know they can be sort of nippy. Heavily planted with the shrimp and a couple of snails could work... are these tanks heated, or have room for heaters? That's probably going to determine what you can keep. If you don't want to heat, or can't, you could go with a small group of white cloud mountain minnows, which do come in long-finned variety, and look nice.

I have one planted right now using all of the equipment that came in the box. I have a supplemental heater, which is not often used. Stock is 5 neons, 2 dwarf corys, 2 ghost shrimp, 3 guppies, and one dwarf african frog....the wife thought the frog was a good idea.....so, considering that it's her tank that I simply maintain, I didn't complain much so she won't have much say when the big one gets put in that I'm currently planning / saving for. Water quality is pretty good. I do get some algae, but not bad. Removed the carbon and added more bio-max and it seems to stay pretty clean. I do about 50% WC each week and all is well. It's been running for about 6 weeks with this stock and no issues....

1 dwarf puffer with plenty of plants for their curiosity...you could scale everything down in the tank to make the fish look larger...ever seen a Godzilla movie?

I like the dwarf puffer idea, they have character for a small fish, and they're cheap!
Also like the idea of micro crabs though, maybe a mixture of micro crabs and shrimp, I think that would be cool, more expensice though.

Well I kept the cory for a yr before getting rid of it and it was fine, and yes I know they are schooling fish. The rummy noses I had grew to about 3" before I sold them off too. Fish for life would prolly be neons and snails, I really don't like snails though lol. I keep a bettas in it now, I like it and it looks simple.

I have one stocked with a betta (had him and a female in there for about 4 days and so far so good. I guess they use the filters flow to find the air. They're in there with a few shrimp, I think they are being picked off though, and 5-6 glow fish. I upgraded the bulbs because they are very yellow and keep the corners dark. I put in some LEDs from superbrightleds.com and they are worth the 30 I spent. I do have a few plants in there but I'm still messing with them so I don't know how they are growing. PM me at AC if you have any questions.
