i was wondering if datnoids and other monster fish like ATF, Pirahna and the like... can they be taught to eat pellets? i've been reading some threads and some says that "New Life Spectrum pellet" and "Omega One" will enhance the color of fishes. I would really love to have some really monster fish but i want them to learn to eat pellets and shrimps not feeders (because they carrry all sorts of diseases). and make them semi-agressive since i don't want to clean the tank and end up in the ER with my finger gone.:D

Datnoids can be...

There are only a few "stalk and pounce" type predators that absolutely refuse non-living food. Most will take pellets but it might take a little patience and conditioning to get them to do so. piranha adapt easily.
Even the ones that require live food will usually accept live ghost shrimp, earthworms, crickets, and cockroaches.
Very few monster actually attack your hand, mainly cichlids. Only very aggressive piranha (rare) will do so and you just use a temporary tank divider to seperate the fish from the 1/2 you are working in.
Even fish that bite seldom do severe damage, piranha can, but the ones that can really take fingers are puffers and maybe pacu.

I had very good results with hikari carnivour pellets, seems to be the only brand accepted so far by my predators..

All of my predators take pellets

My oscar would bite my hand whenever I put it in the tank, but he would never bully other fish.......and when I had my pacu it bit me when it was about 14" It left a few deep holes in my finger, and it wouldnt stop bleeding. Needless to say, I was pissed lol and I no longer have it.

pacu's bite? OMG!! i gotta be extra careful from now on...
