So i got 2 cichlids and a pleco in the tank and every time i do a vacuum there is new poop the next morning!! and since they are all around 9" and 10" it's ridiculous!!
just wondering if anyone else has this problem.... i'm just glad i don't have gravel.. this being my first sand tank has shown me just how much can accumulate in a weeks time...
now my question is can i be vacuuming every other 2 days if i have to? i will be replacing water and i'm wondering if introducing new water like that would be bad. it isn't horrible but it is so noticeable... definitely have to vacuum after a week though... maybe i'm feeding them too much? just want them to grow to full potential!! thanks!

Many fish seem to have a good pooping after a water change. What I do is have a nare bottom tank and net for the poops when I see them. So I do my Thursday water changes and then go around the next day with nets and a turkey baster to get what I can. Beyond that, I've aimed powerheads at a pond pump that throws turds into my ghetto top filter which I empty every week. And feed lightly.

With the sand thing, I'd just take a turkey baster to the turds and call it good.

never thought of that... gonna try it!! turkey baster ftw maybe....

Just give it a good vinegar wash first to be sure any residues are mostly gone. I avoid turkey basters with metal parts or ones that can't be easily broken open for drying. If left wet, they mold. So try to find a white and clear one so you can tell it's clean.

Big plecos are poop machines. They create more waste than the algae they clean. At least it is stringy. My 11" FH drops nuggets....and a ton of them. I scoop them out every other day. I him three times a day; only enough that he can clear it in 30 seconds. It is amazing/ridiculous how much he goes.

Hmm, I will have to try the turkey baster idea too. I have white sand, which looks awesome when it's clean! But, it only lasts for a few hours. My Bristlenose isn't quite as bad as the Common in my other tank, but yeah...they tend to over-achieve in the food processing department!

Ha,ha..lol

Seriously, someone should study plecos, since they seem to poop more than they eat, and still get bigger...

I just gave up trying to keep my tank turd free, I just siphon once a week. It helps if you create a current, usually all the poop goes to the same place. I have a rock were it all collects, so I can get most of it out

I had a 10 in. sailfin i had to get rid of because of that problem. It looked like an enchamted forrest of crap in my 55.
