I just registered to mfk this morning. I'm new to the wonderful world
of fish keeping. I just set up a 20 gallon tank. Nothing EXTREME. I'm starting
off little then If I manage ok, I'll keep moving up. My question is, My tank
looks really cool. I have NO Fish yet. I've been running it for a couple of weeks now. I want to invest in the most exoctic fresh water fish I can get. Does
anybody have any recomendations as to what kind of MONSTER FRESHWATER
FISH would be good to get for a beginner? I appreciate any and all responses
to this. Thanks

Convicts, guppys etc. The tank is really to small for asny thing else!

A single figure 8 puffer would be very happy in there! I have a single one in a 29g tank, and they make great 'pet' fish..

Im really trying to take in and learn from this website. Thank you for your advice.
I'm gonna start with my mini monster. Then slowly work my way up in tanks.
This is all new for me. Any and all advice is well appreciated.

If you want true mini monsters for a 20g try to find some Belonesox belizianus (pike top monnows) from central america, they are hard to find as several states have banned them, they are live bearers and obligate carnivores but easy to keep. they get around 6" and like planted tanks, the females get a bit bigger. You could keep 2-3 females and 4-5 males.
Another little killer is the Phago maculatus (African pike-characin) it is a small psychopath that will kill fish much larger than itself and you should not keep anything with it that you want to live. It also gets about 6+" and likes planted tanks, Rehobotho (one of our sellers) lists them as sometimes available. the upper pic is the top minnow.
