Home of the brave.
It was awesome!!! I watched it tonight and the host of the show traveled to thailand to show how aquaculture is so big there. Apparrently the government stocks the freshwater systems with millions of native fish that are bred in farms wich are highly respected by the locals as they are budhist. He took a trip to this 17 year old boys house who happens to be one of the largest breeders of south american rays. Awesome!!! They caught a big female tossed into a huge pond full of males, turned the hose on to simulate rain fall and bam one of the males got it on instanlty. He also took a trip to a huge man made lake that was stocked with giant natives and giant SA sps. i.e Arapiama alligator gar and RTC for sport fishing. He relled in a 7 foot paima that weighed in at 200lbs. The fresh water exhibit at the zoo he went to was awesome they even had pbass, paimas mixed with there natives including the infamous giant mekong ray. And did you know that they are in fear of a taking over by alligator gars there??? Some locals caught a fatty in a remote area on video and it had eggs.

All in all at first I was like a river monster copy? but IT was an awesome show!!!!

its called monster fish. and discover channel and neo are owned by the same. infact some of the shows are the same. they show the cast of each show in the background sometimes, but both shows have the betters and worse. then the other, monster fish has a different look into things as for river monster is going after monster that have death stories behind them.

but great shows, both have alot of great fish, both have great hosts and alot of learning to be had from them, i record them both and watch em when i have time. :headbang2

I saw a listing for this show but did'nt tune in because I thought it was one of the previous shows.Oh well it will be shown again, probably this weekend....It looks like Brazil and some of her neighboring countries could take a lesson from what they are doing in Thailand with their breeding and stocking programs....I'm not aware of Arapaima being bred in their native area but they sure are in danger there.

I do believe that they are breeding paimas on floating farms in the amazon but not on the scale of what the Thais are doing. It also has to do with the fact they are budhist and have a high respect and understand the importance of all living things. In SA they are more conserned with feeding their families than the environment and its sps...
