Monster Fish Tanks in Earthquake Zones

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Actually I’m considering moving over to fiberglass tanks for this main reason. If Cascadia Subduction zone goes off and let’s out a 9 magnitude quake, a 1000g acrylic tank will give away faster than a similar sized fiberglass tank. It’s also better to have an aquarium that’s wider than its height.

Also anither thing to keep in mind is: be careful if you have shimmed your stands, even a 4.0 quake can potentially make the shims move and mess up the leveling, which in turn can have some serious consequences overtime.

Wow, interesting information. Makes me glad I’m not in an area that has quakes.
We get tornadoes instead. No saving my babies if a twister takes the house out :(

All I get is snow Hahaaa. The problem I see with a fibreglass tank would be the twisting. If the tank twists I can see the panel popping right off the tank

Yeah that’s a good point. But fixing it is a lot easier than acrylic though. But yeah if there’s a 9.0 saving my tanks would probably be at the bottom of my list of concerns. :(

Exactly. I just hope we survive. They say it is not a matter of if, but a matter of when the big one goes off in my area.
