Hello you guys, I'm interested in monster fish that can breathe air. They're such a fascinating things. I know that all true gars, arapaima, chitala, any kinds of giant gourami(s), aba aba knife fish, lungfish, snakeheads, tarpons, bichirs and clarias catfish can breathe air. If there are any that I haven't mentioned or I don't know of, can you guys tell me more?

Electric eel, bowfin, and some other big catfish like ripsaw catfish are also air breathers. Can't tell you much about them since I've never kept them.

Tambaqui (Black Pacu) and Hypostomus plecostomus (black pleco) can survive in low oxygen water and supplement with direct air intake. So probably can Asian carp including goldfish which have been shipped waterless in moist media.

This is surprising…what kind of media?

Some commercial fish farms ship goldfish in a sedated, oxygenated, waterless environment. The process usually involves:
Temporarily sedating the fish, Lowering their metabolism by refrigerating them, and packing them in high-oxygen, humid bags with just enough moisture to keep their gills wet.

I've seen live Asian carp sold in fish markets in bucket without water. I am not sure if Asian carp can breathe air directly, but apparently, they can stay alive for hours out of water.

Hujeta gars have the little mustaches wich helps them breathe air too
I cannot find any reference that says Hujeta gar can breathe air. Hujeta gar is a characin, not a true gar which can breathe air.
