Yeah I know a 55 gallon isnt huge but its the biggest I can have. A chain store has a hood and tank combo on sale for 100 so I figured I will pick one up. Whats the most monster like fish that can live for life. was thinking a bullhead. Also whats the cheapest way to filter the tank. Im trying to keep the tank, stand, and filter under 200. I can probably build the stand for 30 so Ive got 75 for the filter. Im open to pretty much any ideas. I was thinking a siphon sump. The most expensive thing would be the pump. Any other ideas.

Not really sure what you can put in that 55 for life...definitely not a bullhead...but don't skimp on filtration. Save up until you can afford a nice canister filter (Rena, eheim or fluvial). Even with one decent sized monster in there you will be glad you spent on better filtration. Good luck to you

Everything Ive read said a bullhead would be fine in a 55, most max out at 12 inches or under. If I have to Ive got a empty 250 gallon pond I can move him into if he gets to big. I was gonna turn it into a goldfish pond but I can but it on hold if I need to. Theres a care sheet I read on site that said bullheads were fine in anything 50 gallons and over. Thanks for the filter advice Ill look in the canisters and AC110

You probably want to go with a 75 or even 50 gallon tank(36x18 footprint). A 55 is only 13" wide. Even with an 18" wide tank I would look for something that tops out around 6 to 8" and is not too active.

Ok, I might use it as a grow out for the bullhead before moving him to the pond or Ive looked into peacock eels. Ive heard different things about if they are ok for a 55.

A few bichirs and an FX5

get a couple red belly's and Marineland penguin 350.

Not a good idea, RBP can easily outgrow a 55!
