Monster for a 55?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What would be the minimum amount I should have. Ive heard of aggression issues. I plan to start with the penguin filter. I want the stand to be about 2 feet off the ground. Do you think cinder blocks would make a decent stand.

A cinder block stand is a great idea if youre OK with how it looks. Just make sure you support all 4 corners. I think that if you went with exodons, a 55 would be better than a 40 breeder. I think they would like the extra 1' length over the 6" of width since they dont get that big.

im Wow no one has said this for a single monster fish with good filtertion cough cough A Oscar big fun and a great fish in general

A oscar would get to big for a 55 or 40 breeder. Thanks though. Would a smaller bullhead such as a snail or spotted bullhead be ine in a 40 gallon for life. I was told that the gallonage was fine on the 55 but it was the width that cause an issue.

Not a good idea, RBP can easily outgrow a 55!

2 or 3 RBP with 2 or 3 territories would be fine in a 55..

1 oscar can do just fine in a 55 gallon tank..but i was wondering the same thing..i got a 55 long and dont know what to put in it..but i had similiar ideas such a oscar 2 RBP's a peacock eel..or even firemouths..but honestly stick to something kinda smaller cause width is a issue..

Not really sure what you can put in that 55 for life...definitely not a bullhead...but don't skimp on filtration. Save up until you can afford a nice canister filter (Rena, eheim or fluvial). Even with one decent sized monster in there you will be glad you spent on better filtration. Good luck to you
Agreed, but i'd go with the emperor 400.

I would say ditch the 55 gallon ike mentioned previously if possible and start watching craigslist for 75 plus sized tank if that is an option and space isn't the limiting factor in your home. I also agree nothing bigger than 6" for a 12" wide tank. If staying with the 55 try a squad of buck tooth tetras - they are awesome to watch feeding like pirahnas only smaller or if you like catfish a chaka
