Haha! And I thought my 9 pound bass was the biggest fish in the lake, boy was I wrong! I was at my local retention lake/pond and was bass fishing. It's odd though, the carp and tilapia stay on one side, and the bass on the other. Well I desided to check on the tilapia and see how they were doing with thier spawning, still on thier beds. But as I turned around, my reaction was HOLY ****! A never knew there was grass carp in this lake. And this one was HUUGE! Maybe 5-6 feet long! I tried everything from corn to bread to catch it, but nothing. How do I catch this thing?! It's a MONSTER. I saw it about 7 times in 5 hours. All in the same area. I won't kill it, I just want a picture to show off. ;)

you sure its 5-6 ft? Sometimes things in the water make us think its larger than what it may really be. How about netting it?

perhaps it wasn't hungry? I think people catch carp using some kind of dough ball.

You better take pics.......I wanna see if your right on this 4ft thing and not 2 ft :D

There's a difference between carp and grass carp. I've seen them up around 4' up here in Ohio, so I wouldn't be too shocked to see one around 5' down there where it's warmer all year round. They are primarily vegetarian, but in a captive setting, I've seen them take about any type of pellet as well as live fish-they aren't picky.

I've heard rumors of the big guys down there actually killing a person or two by jumping into them while the people are boating. I've had the little guys swim into me while doing maintenance on their tanks when I worked at a hatchery and it feels like taking a pretty good hammer blow-their heads are like bone helmets. I can't imagine a 50+ pounder hitting at full speed

try luncheon meat (spam or similar) cut into small cubes
most carp love the stuff

put one decent piece on the hook and a few loose pieces around it fished on the bottom

shouldnt be too hard to catch if you know where it hangs out

Well the water was clear, and whenever it saw my bait, it just swam away. How do grass carp locate food? By smell? Should I use something smelly? And this thing is huge, I would surely takes picutures. It's at least 4 feet long, if not 5 feet. Also, I'm not expert on IDing carp, but it was torpedo shaped, and had huge golden scales.

see my post above... meat fished on the bottom will nail it

its more than possible it was 4-5ft long
they can easily grow in excess of that

this one is 35lb and ive seen pics of bigger still
